As part of the RADIUS project, FH JOANNEUM visited the AI Service Centre of RTR-GmbH in Vienna to discuss how artificial intelligence can be used safely and meaningfully in companies. The meeting focused on practical deployment, future cooperation, and the conditions businesses need in order to work confidently with AI.
The exchange made clear that the RTR AI Service Centre is not designed primarily as a punitive regulatory authority. Instead, it acts as an advisory and information point that helps organisations understand AI-related obligations, interpret the new legal framework, and develop good practices for implementation.
One major theme was the connection between AI and data protection. The article explains that companies already taking data protection seriously are in a much better position to implement the AI Act and related digital regulations. It also stresses that many organisations, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, still underestimate the strategic and economic value of the data they already generate.
Another key takeaway is that legal certainty can be a competitive advantage. In the European context, clear rules can help companies develop and deploy AI systems with more confidence. In that environment, projects like RADIUS can support businesses in designing, implementing, and operationalising AI models together with research partners.
The visit shows how RADIUS is linking technical AI research with practical questions of governance, compliance, and industrial adoption. It also underlines the importance of strong cooperation between research institutions, public advisory bodies, and industry.
